Writer-Director, Mark Furey, and Producer-Cinematographer, Randy Paik, launched Starting Gate Pictures with Trifecta as their bellwether project. Twenty-five years of collective filmmaking experience, their complementary talents and passion for the art, and dedicated respect for the business of making movies form the inspiration and foundation of their partnership.



MARK FUREY

Writer-Director

Featured in the Vanity Fair 2004 Hollywood issue, Mark is described as a “promising new voice” among “the next wave of cinematic talent.”

Special Delivery, the short film Mark wrote and directed, screened at several major film festivals including Toronto, 2003, where it won a first place award presented by actor Kevin Spacey. It is scheduled to air on network television this Summer, 2004.

As a screenwriter, Mark’s credits include, Richie Rich's Christmas Wish (1998). He sold the treatment, PALS, to Billy Crystal at Castle Rock Entertainment in 2000. His other material has been optioned by a variety of Hollywood producers including actor Patrick Dempsey.

While attending graduate film school at USC Mark won the 1996 William Morris Award for Excellence in Screenwriting. Mark is also a professional magician who performs at the world famous Magic Castle.

 
RANDY PAIK

Producer-Cinematographer

Randy’s professional experience spans fifteen years, thirty plus films and over two hundred commercials and music videos. His camera and production credits include major motion pictures such as Cliffhanger (1993), Batman Returns (1992), Darkman (1990), the Oscar-nominated Cadillac Dreams (1988), and the Oscar-winning Chaplin (1992).

He has also worked on numerous smaller budget and television features some of which include: King of the Ants (2003), The 70s (2000), Mutiny (1999), Number One Fan (1995), If These Walls Could Talk (1996), Pontiac Moon (1994), Mistress (1992) and A Nightmare on Elm Street IV: The Dream Master (1988).

As a producer, Randy has overseen a variety of short films and consulted on several features. His latest effort, Yin-Yang, screened in competition at the 2003 Slamdance Film Festival.

Randy is a member of the Independent Feature Project West and the International Cinematographers Guild. He has also appeared as a guest lecturer at UCLA.
